Development of Land Information System (LIS) Software Underway at the National Agency for Sustainable Land Management and Land Use Monitoring
The development of a Land Information System is outlined in the Strengthening Agricultural Land Management and Monitoring subcomponent of the Georgia Resilient Agriculture, Irrigation, and Land Project (GRAIL).
The Land Information System will serve as a national hub for land resources and soil-related data, playing a crucial role in enhancing sustainable land management and policymaking. Additionally, it will offer consumer services to farmers, individuals, legal entities, and government organizations. The system’s data will contribute to the optimization of land cover as a natural resource and support land and crop management.
The National Agency for Sustainable Land Management and Land Use Monitoring (the Agency) will oversee the management and administration of the Land Information System. The functional design, needs assessment and roadmap for the development of the system will be prepared by RMSI, a global IT services company specializing in geospatial and software solutions.
Regarding this initiative, the first working meeting was held at the Agency with Senthil Rajendran, a representative of the contractor company. The meeting was attended by Giorgi Misheladze, Chairman of the Agency, along with representatives from the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia and the Agency. Anna Corsi, Head of the Land Component of the GRAIL Project, also participated, while Zdravko Galic, an Information Technology Expert, joined online.
