National Agency for Sustainable Land Management and Land Use Monitoring

Attempt to Illegally Claim 4,891 sq.m of Windbreak Land in Karaleti Thwarted

Based on evidence submitted by the National Agency for Sustainable Land Management and Land Use Monitoring, the Gori District Court rejected an individual’s claim to register ownership of 4,891 square meters of windbreak land in Karaleti.

An on-site inspection of the area also confirmed evidence of recent unauthorized activity: trees and vegetation within the windbreak had been illegally cut and uprooted, and the land had been cleared using heavy machinery.

Following the violations identified by the National Agency for Sustainable Land Management and Land Use Monitoring, the case materials were submitted to the Department of Environmental Supervision and the Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance. As a result, the offender was fined 46,288 GEL in compensation for environmental damage.

Since 2021, the National Agency for Sustainable Land Management and Land Use Monitoring has been conducting an inventory of windbreaks (field protection strips). The aim of the program is to identify windbreaks through archival records and desk-based analysis, assign them legal status, and register them as state property. The inventory is scheduled for completion by January 1, 2027. In the next phase, the agency plans to restore existing windbreaks, establish new ones, and ensure their long-term protection.
