National Agency for Sustainable Land Management and Land Use Monitoring

A working meeting was held at the National Agency for Sustainable Land Management and Land Use Monitoring to advance the development of specialized software for the national Land Information System (LIS)

The working meeting with representatives of the global IT services company RMSI was attended by Giorgi Misheladze, Chairman of the Agency, Gizo Chelidze, Head of the Hydro-Amelioration and Land Management Department of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, as well as representatives from the relevant departments of the Ministry and the Agency.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the development of a functional design for the Land Information System (LIS). They defined initial tasks and corresponding deadlines, and identified the necessary human and technical resources. The participants also reviewed the technical possibilities for standardizing data held by various agencies and integrating it into a central database, with the aim of improving data management processes and establishing a unified information system.

Senthil Rajendran, a representative of the contractor company RMSI, presented an overview of similar projects the company has implemented in various countries. RMSI operates across Latin America, Asia, and Europe, including in EU member states.

The establishment of a Land Information System is planned under the “Strengthening Agricultural Land Management and Monitoring” sub-component of the Georgia Resilient Agriculture, Irrigation, and Land Project (GRAIL).

The Land Information System will be developed as a modern digital platform designed to integrate data on land resources, soil properties, and land use types. Serving as a centralized land data hub, it will support the implementation of sustainable land management practices across the country.
