Working Meeting with Uzbek Delegation Held at the National Agency for Sustainable Land Management and Land Use Monitoring
A working meeting was held at the National Agency for Sustainable Land Management and Land Use Monitoring with representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture of Uzbekistan, sectoral experts, and coordinators of environmental projects. During the meeting, participants exchanged experiences and insights on sustainable land management practices.
The meeting was attended by Merab Kvaraia, Deputy Chairman of the National Agency for Sustainable Land Management and Land Use Monitoring, along with representatives from relevant departments of the Agency and the Regional Environmental Center for the Caucasus (RECC).
The Georgian side shared its historical and institutional experience in land management, highlighting the systemic approaches undertaken by the Agency to ensure the sustainable use of land resources. Discussions covered the development and ongoing update of a unified land resource database, essential for compiling a national land balance. Particular attention was given to models for windbreak management and the sustainable use of pastures.
Asror Juraev, Head of the Department of Digitalization of Land Resources of Uzbekistan, presented Uzbekistan’s experience in land management, including approaches tailored to dry ecosystems, measures to combat land degradation, and the implementation of digital solutions.
The parties discussed the current challenges faced by both countries and explored potential strategies for developing effective policies aimed at protecting soil and land resources—an essential foundation for long-term environmental and agricultural sustainability.
The visit of the Uzbek delegation to Georgia took place within the framework of a knowledge-sharing study tour organized by the Regional Environmental Center for the Caucasus, aimed at exchanging experiences in sustainable land and pasture management.
