Pasture Inventory and Registration Launched in Ninotsminda Municipality


The National Agency for Sustainable Land Management and Land Use Monitoring has held its first working meeting with stakeholders in Ninotsminda Municipality to present the details of the pasture inventory and registration project.

The Chairman of the Agency, Giorgi Misheladze, briefed local government representatives on the project’s implementation stages. At the initial stage, a methodology and a working map for identifying pastures have been developed. In the next phase, the Agency plans to measure, categorize, and verify the actual use of both registered and unregistered pastures through consultations with local communities and with the involvement of municipal and state institutions. Upon completion, the finalized documentation will be submitted to the National Agency of State Property for approval after which the agreed package will be forwarded to the Public Registry for registration.

Giorgi Misheladze emphasized the importance of obtaining comprehensive quantitative and qualitative data on pastures across the country, noting that such information is essential for their optimal use and management.

The meeting was attended by the Mayor of Ninotsminda Municipality, Anivard Mosoyan; the Chairman of the City Council, Vaan Aroyan; the Member of the Parliament of Georgia, Sumbat Kyureghiani; representatives of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture and the Samtskhe-Javakheti Service Center of the National Agency for State Property; as well as the mayor’s representatives of the administrative units.

Mayor of Ninotsminda Municipality Anivard Mosoyan noted that the registration and inventory of pastures will help local population use pasture resources rationally.

The meeting concluded with an open discussion, where participants expressed their views on the issue.

The target area for the pasture inventory and registration pilot in Ninotsminda Municipality covers 106,163 ha, of which the current project aims to register at least 15 percent (approximately 15,900 ha).

The Ninotsminda Municipality Pasture Inventory and Registration Project is being implemented within the framework of the “Dairy Modernization and Market Access: Adaptation Component (DiMMAdapt)” program, funded by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the Adaptation Fund (AF). The initiative aims to establish a foundation for effective pasture management reforms in Georgia.
