National Agency for Sustainable Land Management and Land Use Monitoring

The process of developing a national land consolidation strategy has commenced

A team of international experts from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has arrived in Georgia to support the process of developing a National Land Consolidation Strategy and Action Plan.

Giorgi Misheladze, Chairman of the National Agency for Sustainable Land Management and Land Use Monitoring, met in a working format with the experts. The meeting was also attended by representatives of relevant departments of the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture and the Project Implementation Unit (PIU).

The parties discussed the strategic directions and work plan for land consolidation.

Members of the expert group also met with specialists from the National Agency for Sustainable Land Management and Land Use Monitoring to discuss the draft National Land Consolidation Strategy Document and the framework of cooperation. It was emphasized that the Agency will play a key role in the land consolidation implementation process.

The first stage involves the development of a national land consolidation strategy, assessment of the current legal framework, selection of pilot areas, and other basic preparatory activities.

Land consolidation is a state-organized process that, in agreement with landowners and users, enables the exchange or redistribution of land plots in rural areas in to reduce land fragmentation. This process contributes to the strengthening of farms, the rational use of land resources, and the achievement of public objectives, including ecosystem restoration and infrastructure development.
