National Agency for Sustainable Land Management and Land Use Monitoring

Fieldwork under the Pasture Inventory and Registration Program has commenced in Ninotsminda Municipality

Giorgi Misheladze, Chairman of the National Agency for Sustainable Land Management and Land Use Monitoring, met with stakeholders in Ninotsminda Municipality to discuss the methodology and progress of the Pasture Inventory and Registration Program.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the contractor company, the Agency of Protected Areas, the National Forestry Agency, and the National Agency for Mineral Resources, as well as by representatives of the Samtskhe-Javakheti Service Center of the National Agency for State Property, Mayor's representative in the administrative units of Ninotsminda Municipality, local farmers, and other interested parties.

Fieldwork under the program began in early October, following a preparatory stage that included desk research of the target area, preparation of working maps, and organization of technical resources. The contractor company commenced its activities in pastures located at an altitude of around 2,200 meters above sea level, where the fieldwork period is limited due to harsh climatic conditions. As a result of the work carried out, approximately 4,000 hectares of pastureland have been surveyed and data collected.

During the meeting, participants were briefed on the ongoing work, methodology, and upcoming stages of the program. Within the framework of the program field inspections will be conducted to assess the actual condition and land use of pasture plots, evaluate vegetation and soil quality, and describe terrain characteristics. Based on the collected data, recommendations will be developed for the consolidation of land plots, contributing to the targeted and sustainable use of pastures.

The participating parties emphasized the importance of the project for both local self-government and the achievement of national objectives in effective land resource management

During the visit, Giorgi Misheladze inspected inventoried pastures at several locations and reviewed the work process along with the initial results of the collected data.

The Ninotsminda Municipality Pasture Inventory and Registration Project is being implemented within the framework of the “Dairy Modernization and Market Access: Adaptation Component (DiMMAdapt)” program, funded by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the Adaptation Fund (AF). The project aims to lay the foundation for effective pasture management reforms in Georgia.
