Lasha Dolidze, Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, visited Ninotsminda Municipality to review the on-site fieldwork for the inventory of pastures and windbreaks
Giorgi Micheladze, Chairman of the National Agency for Sustainable Land Management and Land Use Monitoring, provided Lasha Dolidze, Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture with detailed information on the ongoing inventory of pastures and windbreaks.
The Deputy Minister, along with the Chairman of the Agency, visited various locations to review the fieldwork carried out, examine the initial results, and become acquainted with the inventory methodology and its practical applications. Special attention was given to the challenges associated with the ongoing process.
Improper land use continues to be a serious issue: Pasture plowing and waste burning are widespread across the municipality. Such irresponsible behavior critically undermines the soil’s ability to protect itself from the damaging effects of wind and water, resulting in severe erosion.
Ninotsminda Municipality Mayor Anivard Mosoyani noted that the municipality will strengthen measures to eliminate land use violations.
The pasture inventory is being conducted within the framework of the program "Dairy Modernization and Market Access: Adaptation Component (DiMMAdapt)".
Deputy Minister Lasha Dolidze also received information on the challenges associated with the inventory of windbreak (field protection) strips, which require timely action to address inconsistencies and implement the regulations of the Law on Windbreaks.
The rational management of pastures and windbreak strips is vital for the country’s ecological security and the sustainable development of agriculture. Conducting a thorough inventory of existing resources is an essential tool for achieving this goal.
