Consultations with farmers have begun in Telavi on the restoration of windbreaks
In Telavi Municipality, a meeting was held with local farmers and representatives of the mayor in administrative units to discuss the restoration and planting of windbreak strips.
Paata Chipashvili, Head of the Agricultural Land Management and Protection Department at the National Agency for Sustainable Land Management and Land Use Monitoring, briefed the meeting participants on the state’s planned measures for windbreaks.
Participants were informed about the importance of windbreaks and were provided with details on the stages of restoration work as well as measures for protecting newly planted windbreak strips.
The meeting highlighted that the state-planned initiative is not only an environmental requirement but also a significant investment in the long-term stability of the agricultural sector, as local farmers will gain tangible economic benefits from this soil protection measure.
The dialogue involved farmers who carry out agricultural activities directly adjacent to state-owned windbreaks. As the primary beneficiaries of the project’s outcomes, they can play a significant role in protecting the newly planted windbreaks in the future. It was noted that collaborative action will enable the project to achieve tangible results and strengthen the protection of land resources within the municipality.
In Telavi Municipality, a total of 321.59 ha of land have been designated as windbreak strips and are registered by the National Agency of Public Registry. Registration with windbreak status is a key prerequisite for initiating projects to restore or plant windbreak strips.
