Discussions were held with nursery representatives on matters related to the restoration and establishment of windbreak belts
Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Lasha Dolidze, and Chairman of the National Agency for Sustainable Land Management and Land Use Monitoring, Giorgi Misheladze, met with representatives of nurseries.
The purpose of the meeting was to inform nursery representatives about the activities planned by the state within the framework of the windbreak restoration and establishment project and to assess the potential for their involvement in its implementation.
The meeting discussed the capacity of Georgian nurseries and the extent to which the sector is prepared to supply the project with the required quantity and quality of planting material.
The discussion also addressed the state’s long-term plan for the establishment of windbreak systems, under which no less than 5,000 ha of windbreaks are to be established by 2030.
The inventory of windbreak (field-protective) belts began in 2021. To date, inventoried windbreaks cover an area of more than 12,000 ha, of which up to 6,000 ha have been granted the relevant status. The inventory process and the assignment of status form the basis for initiating the restoration and establishment of windbreak belts. The target indicator for 2026 is no less than 150 ha.
