National Agency for Sustainable Land Management and Land Use Monitoring

A working meeting was held at the National Agency for Sustainable Land Management and Land Use Monitoring within the framework of the land consolidation project

The meeting was attended by the Chairman of the Agency, Giorgi Misheladze, representatives of the Department of Melioration and Land Management Policy of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, as well as project specialists.

Morten Hartvigsen, an international expert from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), introduced a group of land consolidation consultants who will carry out their activities within the agency's structure.

The meeting participants reviewed the work carried out to date within the framework of the Land Consolidation Project and discussed the process for selecting pilot villages. It was noted that the draft National Land Consolidation Strategy of Georgia has been completed and is currently under discussion.

Land consolidation is a state-organized procedure involving the redistribution or exchange of land plots in rural areas, carried out in agreement with landowners and land users, with the aim of reducing land fragmentation. This process contributes to increased agricultural productivity, improved access to infrastructure and more efficient land-use planning, while simultaneously reducing costs for farmers.

The project is being implemented within the framework of the Georgia Resilient Agriculture, Irrigation and Land Project (GRAIL), funded by the World Bank.
