National Agency for Sustainable Land Management and Land Use Monitoring

Specialists of the National Agency for Sustainable Land Management and Land Use Monitoring were trained on the land consolidation feasibility study

The training aimed to deepen the participants’ knowledge and practical skills in planning and implementing land consolidation. The feasibility study represents the first phase of the work to be carried out under the project, demonstrating the extent to which land consolidation is possible in a specific area.

In his welcoming speech, the Chairman of the Agency, Giorgi Misheladze, emphasized the importance of such a meeting; he said that the knowledge gained during the training will strengthen the professional capabilities of the Agency's specialists.

The training was led by Morten Hartvigsen and Maxim Gorgan, land tenure officers of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations.

The training sessions covered in detail the issues of data collection and the use of land ownership maps. Attention was paid to the practical aspects of work planning, community engagement and awareness raising, as well as fieldwork and conducting individual interviews with landowners.

During the training, specialists were provided with a specially prepared "Land Consolidation Feasibility Study Guide", which includes a complete methodological framework necessary to conduct the process transparently and in accordance with international standards.

The training combined both theoretical part and group practical exercises, including an interview simulation.

The Land Consolidation Project in Georgia aims to reduce land fragmentation and is being implemented within the framework of the World Bank-funded Georgia Resilient Agriculture, Irrigation and Land Project (GRAIL).
