Windbreak Inventory to be Conducted on 4,893.04 ha Across Four Regions in 2026

Under the State Program for Windbreak Inventory and in accordance with the plan approved by the Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture, the 2026 inventory will cover 4,893.04 ha across four regions.
In the Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti region, the estimated windbreak area is 8.72 ha, in the Autonomous Republic of Adjara – 662 ha, the target area in Imereti is 1,879.54 ha; and in Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti – 2,342.78 ha.
The inventory process includes recording the remaining tree and plant species within the windbreaks, their quantity, age structure, and actual condition. Simultaneously, cadastral/survey maps are being prepared, which serve as the basis for registering these territories with the National Agency of Public Registry (NAPR) under the official status of "Windbreaks."
The State Program for Windbreak Inventory has been ongoing since 2021. Its primary objective is to create a unified database of windbreaks and ensure their registration with NAPR, providing for their legal protection and effective management.
Between 2021 and 2025, the nationwide inventory was conducted in 30 municipalities, covering a total of 12,046.3 ha. During this same period, 6,707.9 ha of agricultural land have already been registered with "Windbreak" status. The registration process remains continuous.
The completion of the nationwide windbreak inventory is planned for 2026, which will create a significant prerequisite for systemic, data-driven management. An accurate database will enable the State to effectively plan the restoration and maintenance of windbreaks, contributing to the prevention of wind-induced soil erosion and increasing agricultural productivity.
