National Agency for Sustainable Land Management and Land Use Monitoring

21 Trees Felled - Damage to Windbreak Belts Discovered in Bebnisi

As a result of monitoring conducted by specialists from the National Agency for Sustainable Land Management and Land Use Monitoring, damage to state-owned windbreak belts was discovered in the Kareli Municipality.

Instances of tree-felling and damage by private individuals were identified across four land plots within the windbreak belts. The windbreak belt in question is located between a motorway of internal state importance and agricultural lands. In the village of Bebnisi, a total of 21 trees were cut or damaged - including 16 plane trees and 5 pines - covering an area of 1.05 hectares. Additionally, soil damage was observed in certain sections where heavy machinery was used to level the ground and deposit inert materials (gravel).

The agency has forwarded the violations identified during the inspection to the Department of Environmental Supervision for further legal action.

The Agency actively monitors land use across the entire country. Arbitrary damage to windbreak belts not only threatens the ecosystem and soil fertility but also constitutes a violation of the law.
