FAO Online Seminar “The Role of Land Banking in Support of Land Consolidation
Giorgi Misheladze, the Chairman of the National Agency for Sustainable Land Management and Land Use Monitoring participated in an online seminar titled "The role of land banking in support of land consolidation" during the week of FAO seminars.
Land banking, which entails the purchase, sale, and leasing of agricultural land, is widely used in Western European countries as a crucial tool for land consolidation. This approach helps to address various challenges in land resource management. During the FAO seminar, participants discussed exemplary land banking practices in European nations and explored the potential for adopting similar strategies in Georgia.
It was observed during the meeting that the effectiveness of land banking depends on its intended use. It should align with land management policies and contribute to goals such as rural and agricultural development, the establishment and growth of agricultural land markets, environmental protection, water resource management, and others.
At the conclusion of the seminar, a panel discussion centered around the use of land banking tools, land market development, and land consolidation programs. FAO representatives and international specialists from various countries participated in the discussion.
