The State Program “Access to State-Owned Pastures” was introduced to the representatives of the local government of the Mtskheta-Mtianeti Region
The First Deputy Chairman of the National Agency for Sustainable Land Management and Land Use Monitoring, Merab Kvaraia, discussed the terms and objectives of the program implementation at the meeting held with the State Representative of Mtskheta-Mtianeti Region, Davit Nozadze, and the mayors of the municipalities of the region.
The selection of state-owned pastures for lease is made in agreement with the relevant municipality. Therefore, it is important for local government representatives to obtain as much information as possible about the new program.
The "State-Owned Pasture" program allows livestock owners to secure and use preferred pastures through an auction within the framework of a three-year lease agreement. The program approved by the Government of Georgia on October 6 of this year, aims to promote rational pasture use, protect pastures from degradation, and simultaneously facilitate the development of the livestock sector by establishing legitimate private responsibility for pastures.
During the meeting, the State Representative discussed the local situation and emphasized the anticipated positive outcomes resulting from the program's implementation. In the Mtskheta-Mtianeti region, there are 58 units of agricultural land exceeding 1 hectare in size, categorized as pasture and registered as state property, totaling 1,284 hectares.
