The State Program “Access to State-Owned Pastures” was introduced in the Dedoplistkaro municipality
The chairman of the National Agency for Sustainable Land Management and Land Use Monitoring, Giorgi Misheladze, introduced the significance of the program and provided details on participation in the state program "Access to State-Owned Pastures" to representatives of the self-government of Dedoplistskaro municipality and local farmers.
Farmers in the said municipality can utilize state-owned pastures by following the program's requirements. Currently, 610 pastures covering 26,212 hectares have been identified in the Kakheti region, with 11,382 hectares located in the Dedoplistskaro municipality.
The state program offers farmers who own cattle and/or small livestock the opportunity to acquire pasture through auctions and lease it for a period of three years. Pre-selected bidders will participate in these auctions. To prevent overgrazing, the program includes a protective mechanism in the form of limits on the carrying capacity per animal. Specifically, each head of cattle is allocated between 1 and 1.5 hectares of pasture, while each head of small livestock is allocated between 0.2 and 0.5 hectares.
To date, data for 116 pastures from the Samtskhe-Javakheti, Kakheti, and Kvemo Kartli regions, totaling 14,786 hectares, have been published. Registration of applications has commenced and will continue until April 26. Detailed information is available on the websites of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia (www.mepa.gov.ge) and the National Agency for Sustainable Land Management and Land Use Monitoring (www.land.gov.ge). The list of available pastures will be updated gradually.
