The National Agency for Sustainable Land Management and Land Use Monitoring presented the results of 9 months' work to the Agrarian Affairs Committee of the Parliament of Georgia
At the committee meeting, the Chairman of the agency Giorgi Misheladze summarized the activities carried out by the agency. He also reviewed the current projects and the planned activities to be implemented by the end of the year. The meeting was attended by Tengiz Nasaridze, Deputy Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia.
Giorgi Misheladze drew attention to the successful completion of the pilot project. The project involved establishing an integrated database of land resources in Kvareli and Lagodekhi municipalities. At the meeting, he further reviewed the statistical analysis of the results. As the Chairman of the agency emphasized, a unified geodatabase of Land Cover and Land Use was developed using the Corine classifier in the pilot area, encompassing a total of 187,792 hectares. Based on the decoding of orthophoto plans, the inventory of Land Cover has been initiated in Akhmet, Telavi, and Gurjaani municipalities, covering an area of 85,000 hectares in this phase.
The Chairman of the agency addressed the state program for access to state-owned pastures and presented a summary of the nine-month statistics. Notably, 97 pasture plots of 8,250 hectares have been leased with an annual rental fee totaling 749,034 GEL. Within the ongoing 8th stage of the program, a cumulative 14,163 hectares of pasture plots have been leased, amounting to an annual fee of 1,511,536 GEL. Moving to the current 9th stage, the agency has received 71 applications seeking to lease 9,316 hectares of pasture.
Giorgi Misheladze also provided an update on the progress of the state program for the inventory of windbreak (field protection) strips. This year, an inventory of 1,675 hectares of windbreak strips was conducted in Dedoplistskaro and Kareli municipalities, and the ongoing process involves registration and status assignment. As part of the inventory program, a total of 1,414 units of land, covering an area of 1,195 hectares, have been registered as windbreaks.
